Sounds and cochlear implants

Congratulations! You have completed the third and final lesson.

Much like a healthy ear, a cochlear implant produces different pitches through electrical activity at different locations in the cochlea.

The deeper in the cochlea the stimulation takes place, the deeper the perceived sound is. The particularly low sounds are located in the second of the 2 ½ cochlear turns.

The deeper a sound, the slower the rhythm of the nerve signals transmitted to the brain. Some cochlear implants can also produce the slow rhythm of low-pitched sounds.
